Marquis Alliance uses all the conventional WBM and OBM mud systems with all known types of anti accretion mechanisms. The list below highlights innovative enhancements and new systems that Marquis Alliance would like to showcase.
The specifically designed emulsifier used in the B.A.S.E.™ Mud system (MF BASEmul™) water-wets and emulsifies the bitumen into the mud system immediately at the bit. The B.A.S.E..™ Mud system is generally run with an oil/bitumen content of between 6.0% - 14%. When the bitumen particles are emulsified into the mud system, they become completely water-wet. Thus no sticky, messy oil is exposed to the rig or personnel at surface. The size of the emulsified bitumen particles generally range from 0.1~10 microns. The low filtrate and quick well bore shut off characteristics of the B.A.S.E.™ mud are a result of the good particle size distribution from the water wet bitumen. The bitumen also works as a natural lubricant which is why the oil/bitumen percentage is generally kept above 6.0%. With an oil/bitumen percentage of 6% and 14% the reduction in torque is 49% and 82% respectively. The B.A.S.E.™ mud system is a stable emulsion system and therefore can be used in thermal applications. Marquis Alliance has spent over 10 years researching, developing and improving its B.A.S.E.™ Mud system for heavy oil wells. The system has been tested extensively by several operators in a variety of regions with great success. Recent findings show that applying temperature optimizes the B.A.S.E.™ mud system which ultimately saves the operator fluid costs. Longer reach horizontals are manageable due to the lubricity characteristics of the B.A.S.E .™ Mud system. No mud cooler has ever been required when drilling with this system. Experience with stripping fluids, have allowed crews to continually reuse all fluid volumes from each hole section with minimal fluid waste.
Oil break is a zwitterionic substance that is slightly anionic at elevated pH. At a pH of 1 it is cationic, at a pH of 3-8 it is zwitterionic, and at a pH above 8 it is zwitterionic to slightly anionic. Three beneficial aspects of the Oil Break are as follows:
Accretion: The substance forms a thin film on steel that prevents oil from sticking to surfaces.
Cuttings Cleaning: The anionic nature of the substance aids in the cleaning of surface cuttings.
Emulsion: This substance forms a stable emulsion at ph below of 10, and the emulsion can be broken by increasing the pH above 11, this is generally achieved using a strong solution of NaOH. An increase in the amount of water in solution will also break the emulsion. In conjunction with our polymer system, Oil Break can clean the oil off of cuttings so they can be mixed, buried and covered.
The MA CoreDrill system uses MA CoreVis as the viscosifier and fluid loss additive in combination with MA CoreHib. MA CoreVis was designed specifically as a simple, one bag, easy to mix product for Delineation and Coring wells in heavy oil and tar sands. MA CoreHib is a Amine inhibitor that has proven to be effective in the lab and field at inhibiting the reactive up hole clays. Both products are easy to mix for smaller rigs with less mixing capabilities. The MA Core Drill system provides viscosity, fluid loss and lubricity all within a two bag mixture ideal for delineation projects that require low fluid loss and cuttings transport for coring and logging applications.
The MA Mor system is a newly developed hydrocarbon stabilizing system mainly used in Bitumen containing formations. The system is currently undergoing testing and more information will be coming soon.
