Biophysical / Wetland Assessments

Biophysical / Wetland Assessments

Biophysical wetland assessments are completed when a water body (or suspected water body) is identified either within or close to the 100m radius from the proposed well centre. During the assessment, the wetland is classified and the edge is delineated according to vegetation and other characteristics.

The vegetative species present within and around the wetland are inventoried, and rare species are noted. Additionally, the lease perimeter is walked to look for any other potential water bodies or wetlands that may fall within 100m of well centre. Proper pre-disturbance identification of water bodies allows for mitigative planning and precautions to avoid penalties under the Water Act.

We have also performed biophysical / wetland assessments when wetlands or water bodies were identified within 100m of well centre, post-drilling. Assessments have been filed with the ERCB as an audit response, we then estimate the extent of impact and suggest appropriate mitigative measures.
